BIOGRAPHY


Sandra Borøy (1992). Born in Oslo, raised in Gjøvik and feeling at home in Søgne, closest to her family ties and the sea.
Currently living in (and loving) Oslo.


With both her parents working at a Norwegian Music Folk High School (norwegian term. folkehøgskole) all her youth, she grew up with a lot of musical input from early age. Singing in choirs from the age of three and also performing a lot with her family in the local community, she found herself naturly put on the stage and realized her urge to express herself through music. 

Her deepest musical influence throughout her life is sitting next to her father while he played piano; teaching and singing songs for and with her. From the day she learned her first jazz standard tune Come Sunday (Ellington) she was captivated. She loved the musical and harmonical structures in jazz, and the freedom that came along with it. Since then, she has always felt mostly at home when she get the freedom to intepret the music as she wants, while playing.





Borøy has a masters degree in Preforming Music from University of Agder and Academy of Music and Drama (Kristiansand/Gothenburg, 2012-2017) and an additional degree in Educational theory and Practice (PPU)  from Norwegian Academy of Music (2019).

Through and after her studies she has done various of projects as a singer, musician and composer.

In 2016 she released her debut album Sus (Losen Records), which gave her national and international attention from Sweden, Germany and France, through radio plays and reviews. The album was live recorded with her former band at Amper Tone studio (Oslo) with valuable sound and mix done by Bård Ingebrigtsen and Helge Sten.

In 2022 she released her second album Paralleller (AMP Music and Records) with new musicians, bigger and more varied sound. Paralleller was made as a concept album, containing songs with unique depictions of one or more human beings' lives, which can happen simultaneously.

She has also sung with big bands, jazz quartets/trios, done background vocalist for various of artists and conducted rhythmical choirs/acapella groups.
